Sun Flare & Cynthia

This Saturday was SO SUNNY!! My cousin Kirby and I decided to do a photo shoot for fun. He convinced his friend Cynthia to be our model and she did an amazing job. Cynthia is such a sweet girl and it sounds like she has an ambitious future ahead of her. Thank you Cynthia, you look amazing in these shots! Kirby is in high school and taking a photography class. He is like my little grasshopper and I am teaching him what I have learned thus far in my photography career. He has a great eye and I'm so excited for him to help me on future shoots. I was talking to him about sun flare... it seems to be the thing to do lately in all of the photo blogs that I read. I love the look, but I haven't been able to get it down. I had Kirby give it a try and WHAM...the most awesome sun flare photo was created. His composition is wonderful! I love it! See below. We decided it was his lens that did the trick for the "flarey" effect. I've now decided to buy a cheap lens for this purpose. I can't believe that was all I need! It was good day.

Photo by Kirby Littlefield. Edited by Me.

Look how cute! Thanks Kirby & Cynthia!

Jared = Super Smart Computer Guy

My husband Jared sleeps about six hours per night. He is constantly collaborating with a group of friends (mainly Hans) to come up with new ways to take over the internet / iPhone applications. He amazes me all the time. If you would like a preview of their creativity, check out the following sites.

Exposure

As I mentioned in a previous post, I was able to work with Daniels-Brown Communications on an ad campaign. I took two different portraits for two different businesses. The ad ran today in The Seattle Times, page A2! I was so excited to go buy a paper! The ad will also be going out direct mail to about 200,000 homes. Here is the ad in The Seattle Times and also the direct mail cards! I really enjoy working with a creative team and hope to move my photography in this direction!

Chinese New Year!

Jared and I met up with our friends, Seren & Jimmy, to go to the Chinese New Year Celebration last weekend. The drums were AMAZING and the children couldn't be CUTER! Seren always knows of fun things to do around town, view her travel blog here. I am proud to live in a city where a little rain never cancels an event! Although, it would have been nice to have the sun come out.....but....it's Seattle.

Published

As a photographer, having your work published is the icing on the cake. The act of photography itself is so fun, but when you see a photo you took, used in some print form, it makes you feel polished. I've been lucky enough to hook up with a great advertising team, Daniels-Brown Communications. Their work is wonderful and every so often I am able to provide them with my photography. This week, I have the opportunity to do it again and I can't wait to see what I'll come up with. Here are some samples of work I've done for them.

Grandma Clara’s Farm

While taking my sister's engagement photos at my Grandma's house in Sultan, I felt like a kid again! Going to Grandma's house was the best when I was little! As children, we got to see the owl in the silo, hang in the loft of the barn while playing hike & seek, ride the horses and drive the four wheeler in the fields! What great memories! Here are some fun shots of the farm after my sister's shoot was done.

It's Me! Just hanging on the fence... I Love those clouds behind me!

Testing lighting prior to shooting. Jared likes to goof around and be my sassy model. So handsome!!

Macro

Details, details, details! I love macro lenses for that purpose! I can walk around with a macro lens on my camera and all of the sudden, I'm officially the most entertained person in Seattle. I just walk around, shoving my camera up to things which are very tiny and...BAM!!! It's no longer a boring something, it's ART. See below. :)

Is it summer yet?

Ok...I know it's only January, but I am completely looking forward to Summer! I was was reminiscing of last year and I came across a couple photos of my Grandma YaYa that I took. Jared and I visited her in California last year and had a great trip. She is my artsy, free spirit, Grandma and I LOVE HER! She was really confused why I wanted to take pictures of HER! She replied, "I'm ancient, why do you want photos of me?" I'm sure you'll all agree with me that she is so fun to look at (from her parasol to her flowy top) I think she is beautiful and I feel blessed to call her family.
